Reflecting On Creating A Moodle Classroom
- Add a banner, text and images: After watching a video on editing functions, I clicked on the gear cog at the top of the page to edit the summary. I added the class summary then I inserted the public domain picture I found on Google images. At first I picked a beautiful picture that gave a better feeling of the concept of “leisure”, but then I thought about the copyright laws and changed it to one that was less meaningful, but in the public domain therefore making it safer to use.
- Add a word or pdf document: I created a sample document and inserted it into an extra credit assignment as a url link.
- Add an external URL: For the article assignment, I searched for an on-line leisure article and inserted the link to the article for use with the response assignment.
- Create a Moodle Assignment: I clicked on the “add an assignment or activity” link in the bottom of the first week section. Then I selected what type of assignment I wanted to add. After that, I just scrolled down and added the information that was needed. I had to revise a few of the activities when I previewed the assignment to make sure the learning outcome was the way I intended it to be.
- Create a quiz with at least 3 questions: Creating the quiz was the most challenging part of the project. I had to make sure it was reflective of the learning objective and the wording was not too complicated.
- Create a forum, or other student peer interaction/collaboration (such as a glossary, wiki): The resource wiki is one of my extra credit assignments that students can add to about leisure activities they recommend.
- Create a questionnaire or feedback activity for users to give you input about your course: The student feedback will be the most important part of this assignment. I chose to follow the model on our MIST classes on iLearn and added the “Ask your instructor and classmates” feedback activity because it is effective, helpful and collaborative.
- Enroll your team members as students in your course. -- Also add MIST Student_1 --: I successfully added my teammates and the mystery MIST Student_1 by scrolling down under the “administration” area to “users” then “enrolled users”. It was really easy to search for students by name and then adding them to the class by clicking the “enroll users” button at the bottom.
- Open course/lesson to students, and tell them how to get started in your course/lesson: After watching a tutorial video, I changed the class in the “edit course settings” next to the “visible” category from “hide” to “show” class. Then I created a feedback activity in week 0 and then added the greeting that explained what to do clearly in order. After this, I emailed my student the week one welcome and directions that were included in the
- Grade and give feedback to your "students": (I have not had a chance to do this as my students have not submitted any assignments yet).
